This stunning match safe/vesta case is a beauty. It dates from the art nouveau era of the early 1900s. It is crafted in 10k yellow gold. The center features the art nouveau woman adorned with a diamond in the center of her forehead. The Old mine cut diamond weighs approx. .03 ct. The back has a couple of dings on it, but other than that it is in great condition. Vesta cases are small portable boxes made to contain matches and keep them dry. They take their name from the Roman goddess of fire and the hearth, although in the United States they are more prosaically know as match safes. Although these handy containers are rarely seen today, from 1850 to 1915 match safes were extremely popular. It weighs 18.16 grams. It measure 2 1/4" x 1". The back has 2 soldered loops so that it can be worn as a pendant.
